Friday morning a memorial service was held for Victoria Griffith, beloved Halcyon House resident and friend to all since February 2013. Friday morning a memorial service was held for Victoria Griffith, beloved Halcyon House resident and friend to all since February 2013. Pastor Jason Collier, with United Church of Crawfordsville and Ainsworth, officiated. Playing the piano at the service was administrator Chris Marshall, who accompanied Victoria?s granddaughter-in-law, Carrie Griffith from Texas, in singing ?In the Garden.? The service ended in song with everyone singing, ?It is Well with My Soul." A reception was held following the service.
Arbor House resident Jane Weber looks forward to her weekly family outings on Sundays to visit family and to attend Mass with them. A round of freshly made fruit smoothies was supplied by team member Mary Ann Greiner, for residents to enjoy while they completed their weekend activity of poetry writing.
At Movers and Thinkers this Friday residents enjoyed homemade state fair funnel cakes. Some liked them topped with cherries and whipped cream while others liked them with just powdered sugar! Trivia, Iowa State Fair history and 2015 State Fair daily attendance records were also shared. Ethel brought field corn to show the residents what the crop is looking like in the field. Many were amazed at how far along the corn is.
Avalon residents recently took a road trip to Lake Darling to see what changes have been made and check on the progress of the new cabins being built. All were engaged in singing and Trivia during the ride while they enjoyed their sack lunch. On the return trip they traveled the scenic route back.
Residents enjoyed Sunday church service at Epworth Chapel, which was provided by Pastor Dean Elmore of Washington Church of God. The Aug. 23 sermon was, ?Power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,? with the scripture reading from Matthew 8: 16-17.
