Halcyon House News
On Thursday evening the Zion Christian Fellowship group came in to sing for us. This talented group of singers was led by Michael Martin along with 14 adults and 12 youth. After the program they went around the room introducing themselves and talking with the residents. Everyone enjoyed the musical program.

Halcyon House has been decorating this week for the ghouls and goblins that will be coming for Halloween Trick-or-Treat night. Trick-or-Treat at Halcyon House is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 31, from 6-7 p.m. We hope to see you and your goblins.
Halcyon House residents and team members kicked off their Blue Zone Nu-Step Challenge this week! Residents and staff are being challenged to ?step? their way across all five Blue Zones while exercising on the Nu-Step. Each week participants will focus on a different Blue Zone-traveling from California to Costa Rica, to Italy, to Greece, to Japan, and back to the start. The Halcyon House Wellness Department will track all participants by placing a set of footprints for each participant on a large Blue Zone map in the Halcyon House fitness center. Participants will be able to see their progress and ?step? their way across all five Blue Zones! Participants will earn a prize for completing all five weeks!
Beth Janacek was honored recently by the West Chester United Methodist Church for her many years playing piano at church services. Beth says she actually played at two churches in West Chester over the years. She stated between the two churches it was right at 70 years she had served with her piano playing.
Fritz Conrad welcomed his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Richard Jacobs, for a visit this week. They were visiting from Pace, Florida, where Fritz and his late wife used to winter every year. Carol thought the weather was a bit too chilly during the Iowa visit.
Audrey Stark hosted her daughter, Marty, and nephew Kent Keating this past week for lunch. Kent lives in Cedar Rapids and is currently the choir director at Mt. Mercy College. He was in town on business, so the three of them made time to catch up and enjoy lunch in the Applewood Bistro.
The Alzheimer?s Support Group will be held in the Applewood Bistro on Thursday, Oct. 20. The topic this month will include ?Planning for the future ?What legal plans should be made and how to go about making them.?
The Halcyon House team members and residents extend their deepest sympathy to the families of our residents and friends who passed away recently: Mary Patt Balk and Sam Hochstetler.
