On Sunday, Josh Dorenbas from Faith Baptist Church led Halcyon House’s Sunday service in Epworth Chapel. He read from scripture text Psalm 90 and the sermon title was “Teach Me to Number My Days.” He was joined by pianist Dorothy Koehler.
Do you want to build a snowman? Yes, we do! In the afternoon, household residents had 12 youngsters from the Y’s after school program build a snowman in the court yard for everyone to watch. Hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies topped off this afternoon’s snowman building activity. Wedgewood also made a miniature snowman at the “Joggin your Noggin” program. A bucket of snow was brought in for everyone to feel this cold white stuff.
In Arborwood this past week, residents decorated snowflakes while they watched the YMCA kids decorate snowmen in their courtyard. The residents enjoyed watching the camaraderie between the children and sipped on hot cocoa and munched on chocolate chip cookies, too. The residents were decorating snowflakes in preparation for their Flannels & Frost Social that was held campus-wide on Thursday.
Arborwood residents enjoyed frosty and bubbly blue punch with cheese and crackers on the side to celebrate the winter season and their beautiful snowflakes added the perfect touch. In addition to a winter-themed party, the residents of Arborwood built a snowman using a tube sock for the body, brown rice for the stuffing, button eyes, and a fuzzy sock hat! They could not believe how adorable they turned out to be. For exercise this week, many participated in Gentle Stretch, Cardio Drumming, and even used a parachute and beach ball to get their bodies moving!
On Monday, kiddos from the Community Y daycare after school program came to play in the snow outside of Rosewood. The courtyards were full of excitement and snowy fun. The snow was not perfect for upright snowmen, but the kids improvised and made snow mounds instead. These snow mounds were topped off with cozy hats, scarves, a carrot nose, two eyes and a smile made out of charcoal. Needless to say everyone who watched out the windows loved all of the energy with big smiles.
Sagewood residents read the Daily Chronicle and did crosswords, word searches, and tried to figure out riddles! They thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and say it’s a great way to start their morning. Residents in Sagewood also had their Flannel & Frost Social and had a bubbly punch with sherbet ice cream in it. They enjoyed the sweet, frosty drink as well as cheese and crackers made by Circa59. Along with many of the other households, residents made the sock snowmen and adored them as well.
Independent Living and Sitler also had their Flannel & Frost parties this past week. Residents all gathered in their cozy, comfy flannels to celebrate winter by enjoying a White Russian cocktail, blue, frosty punch, a cheeseball made into the shape of a snowman, and played January Trivia. The trivia was tough, but all residents did well! In fact, they all did so well that we had a tie for first place with scores of 23/25!
Aside from our winter social, residents participated in Seated Strength exercise class, Gentle Stretch, and gathered for Coffee & Conversation. As always, the ladies in Sitler gathered for their weekly Bingo games and chose prizes ranging from chocolate, candy, chips, Jell-o cups, and sodas. Many of them walked away with more than one bingo!
Lastly, we’d like to wish a happy birthday to last of our January birthdays; Clyde Cornelius (1/23), Dick Horak (1/26), and Richard Chorpening (1/31)! Happy birthday!
