This past Sunday in Epworth Chapel at Halcyon House in Washington, Minister Scott Johnson led the Sunday service and read from Scripture 2 Timothy 4. Johnson was also joined by pianist, Dorothy Koehler. All residents who attended said it was a beautiful service in Epworth.
Last week, our friends at Sagewood prepared for Phil the groundhog to make his appearance with some Groundhog Day trivia and lots of laughs. Although we were not thrilled with Phil’s prediction, we continue to celebrate the good things winter brings, including the 2022 Winter Olympics. Residents enjoyed competing in games in the house as it was a bit chilly outside! To end the week, we started preparing for Valentine’s Day by creating door wreaths made from painted puzzle pieces. We called it “I love you to pieces.”
Wedgewood had a surprise visitor this week. One of our team members, Taylor, brought her cute little puppy (Chewy) for a visit. A lot of smiles and cuddles were enjoyed by everyone. At “Joggin’ your Noggin” we did a “Groundhog Day” word search. The word groundhog could be found in the puzzle 17 times. For anyone that found it all 17 times earned a surprise for all of their hard work.
The past week in Rosewood was a busy one. Some residents have been looking through Reminisce magazines. Memories of years gone by seem to come flooding back. The weather is still cold, but the sun has been shining, so we have been keeping on the move with exercise and also lots of music, dancing and trivia. There have been lots of visitors in and out, too.
In Arborwood, we spent the week focusing on FUN! For exercise each morning, residents participated in Gentle Stretch, did cardio drumming, bowling, dancing, and using the colorful and bright parachute! We did an Elvis trivia where residents had to finish the lyrics to his famous songs and naturally, it ended it dancing and singing. On Thursday afternoon, residents made a Valentine’s Day craft to decorate their household and their rooms. These crafts were made up of Mod Podge, tissue paper, and wax paper. Once you removed the wax paper, it revealed a beautiful sun catcher for the window, but since its Valentine’s Day, we called these crafts “Love Catchers.”
In Independent Living and Sitler, residents had a great first week of February with lots going on. On Monday, residents gathered in Sitler Lounge to play their weekly games of Bingo. Everyone always walks away with a prize and they enjoyed their sweet treats together as they chatted afterward. On Thursday, they had their first “Health Chat” led by our team member Jeannie. They discussed mental health and the importance of staying connected. Later that evening, there was a program in Timmins event center led by one of our residents here about the ukulele. Residents left the program feeling energized and excited to get their hands on a ukulele to begin learning how to play! Friday was GO RED Day, a day where everyone is invited to wear red to raise awareness for heart disease. The halls and dining areas were filled with red as everyone dressed for the occasion. Residents also enjoyed a heart-healthy meal of lemon and herbed chicken, roasted vegetables, and orzo as the special for GO RED Day in Circa59. We had another great week at Halcyon House!
Lastly, we’d like to wish a happy birthday to Roy Kintz (2/10)!
