This past Sunday in Epworth Chapel, Rick Zickefoose from Brighton Community Church led chapel service for the residents of Halcyon House in Washington. The sermon was titled “Victory over the Fear of Disasters” and read from scriptures Job 1:6-12. Rick was joined by Anne Zickefoose as well as Virginia Tschantz on piano. It was a beautiful Sunday in Epworth Chapel.
Last week in Arborwood, residents gathered for exercise and enjoyed Relax & Rejuvenate, Cardio Drumming, and participating in their own Olympics! The exercise challenge on Friday was to see how long they could keep a balloon off the ground. Residents went for gold and made sure the balloon did not hit the floor!
Residents got in the Valentine’s Day spirit by doing “Love Is in the Air Trivia” as well as “Name That Tune” where residents listened to old Valentine’s Day love songs and had to guess the name of each song. As they listened, they reminisced on the first time that they heard the songs and how they made them feel. We had so much fun in Arbor last week!
Wedgewood had a blast at “Artist with HeArt” and made Valentine heart trees. Residents used their fingers instead of a paintbrush to pain. Finger painting brought back memories of this fun activity that they had done a while back. Bible Study with Fran on Friday’s is always a well-attended activity.
Our Rosewood residents had a fun week full of games, trivia, music and table games. It seems that table tennis using a pool noodle and balloon was a big hit. Dancing to the oldies is always popular and loved by many. An impromptu resident piano concert finished a morning of big balloons and exercise on Thursday. What a treat to listen to!
The residents of Sagewood started their week off with an art project called “Love You to Pieces” where they made heart shaped door wreaths from painted puzzle pieces. Later on in the week they enjoyed “Thirsty Thursday” social with beverages, snacks, and good conversation. To end the week, our friends in Sagewood made cake pops at the “Pop Up” baking class!
The ladies of Sitler gathered for their weekly bingo outing and many walked away with sweet treats as prizes. At “Share a Little, Learn a Lot,” residents were invited to bring photos and share stories of their wedding or a loved one’s wedding because February is bridal fashion month. The stories shared were wonderful and each resident was able to learn a lot about their neighbor.
One resident said she sewed her own wedding dress at 21, and all the materials only cost her $30. On Friday, many residents came down to the Applewood Lounge for Coffee & Conversation and sipped on coffee and munched on mini donuts. Super Bowl Sunday was celebrated in Applewood Lounge and there wasn’t an empty seat. Residents enjoyed cheeseburger soup, a meat, cheese and veggie tray, pinwheels, and a football-shaped dessert.
Lastly, we’d like to wish a happy birthday to Dolores Wood (2/18)!
