Sunday Chapel Service at Halcyon House in Washington was led by Minister Jason Collier of Ainsworth & Crawfordsville Church. He was joined by pianist, Lina McNiel, and reader, Jeremy Collier. Together, they read scripture from Kings 5:1-5/8:1-13. The sermon was titled, “Solomon’s Temple.” They were a joy to have lead Sunday Service at Halcyon.
Arborwood had a busy week full of fun activities as we welcomed November. Arbor residents enjoyed autumn-themed bingo. With each bingo they won, instead of shouting “BINGO!” they shouted “Gobble Gobble!”
The residents enjoyed playing bingo, but I think they enjoyed the tasty treats they won even more! Arbor also learned that November is “Kindness Month” and did an activity called “Color It Forward.”
Each person colored their own individual piece of art that was a part of a bigger picture. When they put all of their art together, it formed a beautiful mosaic of colorful herons.
During “Tuesday Tunes,” residents took turns playing songs on the piano. One of the residents said that hearing her friends play on the piano brings her so much joy, and that she wishes they could play for her all day long! On “Waggin’ Wednesday,” Arbor residents met a Shih Tzu/Terrier mix named Dinko. They had such a fun time playing with Dinko and enjoyed his friendly and social personality.
They ended the week with hot chocolate and trivia. The afternoon was spent with fun conversation and reminiscing about a lot of the trivia facts that we talked about. We laughed a lot, too.
The gals of Arbor were trying to do the crossword puzzle and letter jumble in the newspaper. We did pretty good at figuring some of the answers out. We truly had a great start to November in Arborwood.
On Monday, Sagewood residents tried a new program called Monday Memorabilia. November is Heirlooms and Antiques Month so we watched short clips from Antiques Roadshow and before the appraiser gave us the value, residents tried to guess how much the antique was worth.
We had some pretty outrageous numbers. On Wednesday, we played Bingo with our Wedgewood neighbors and Thursday we got started on some fall painting during Craft, Color, and Create.
Many memories were made again this year in the households, as our annual kids Halloween costume parade entertained our residents. Halcyon House teammates, and their kiddos paraded around outside, the courtyards, and throughout the grounds. It was great to see lots of smiles and fun.
After the parade, Independent Living residents passed out candy bags to the kids. The weather was perfect. The weather for the first part of the week was so beautiful. We took advantage of it and many went out to enjoy a bit of the fresh air.
The ladies in Sitler met for their weekly Bingo games and enjoyed competing against one another for candy and soda prizes. All residents were invited to attend a program called, “Women in History,” which highlighted famous women who made a powerful impact on society and the way things are today.
All the residents said they really enjoyed the program and it was very interesting to learn about women who have challenged the status quo to make the world a better place. We had yet another great week here at Halcyon.
Lastly, we’d like to wish a happy birthday to Betty Osincup (11/9)!
