This past Sunday in Epworth Chapel at Halcyon House in Washington, Sunday Service was led by Minister Kwang Song of Washington United Methodist Church. His sermon was titled, “Bread of Life,” and read from scripture John 6:1–15. He was joined by pianist Virginia Tschantz.
Arborwood residents had a fun week last week! Morning exercise consisted of Relax & Rejuvenate, Cardio Drumming, using the parachute with a beach ball, and Seated Strength! During Coffee & Conversation, residents enjoyed reading the Daily Chronicle and figuring out the riddles of the day. Random trivia, “Name That Tune,” and “Finish the Lyrics” made up Puzzles & Ponderings and brought back many memories of songs they used to dance to back in the day. Arborwood ended the week by making homemade fudge! This was a well-attended activity, as it’s impossible to resist fudge!
Wedgewood residents look forward to their “Thirsty Thursday” each week. This social activity gives everyone a chance to gather have something to drink and to catch up on what is going on in the news. The topic for this week’s gathering was “What is the biggest change you have seen in your lifetime.” A healthy snack of strawberries and blueberries was part of this afternoon social. The “Mystery Suitcase” this week was about the history of Sanibel Island and the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Florida’s connection to Lake Darling in Washington County Iowa. A discussion on how to identify sea shells ended with everyone choosing a sea shell from Sanibel Island beach.
Rosewood residents started the week with some fun breakfast table conversations about the nice weather coming, and gardening. We are trying to decide if we want to plant vegetables or just flowers. Many thought petunias would be a great idea this year. As always exercise, with the best music was enjoyed. We are listening to all types of music from the past. Some really great sounds as we explore through different singers. Spring is on the way and we are ready!
Residents of Sagewood started the week off with a Gentle Stretch class on Monday. We had a blast at BINGO on Wednesday and enjoyed Shamrock Shakes for Thirsty Thursday!
Sitler ladies gathered in the lounge to play their weekly BINGO games. Lots of delicious prizes were won and lots of fun was had! Independent Living and Sitler residents have been doing great exercising and have been tracking their exercise minutes to earn miles on the Appalachian Trail for our exercise challenge! Each minute they exercise, they earn 1 mile on the trail. We’re on week four and so far, the highest scoring resident has earned 2,195 miles! During Share a Little, Learn a Lot in the Applewood Lounge residents shared their family history by exchanging stories, bringing photos, or other family heirlooms since March is Heritage Month.
Lastly, we’d like to wish a happy birthday to Judy Kunkel (3/13), Linda Bonar (3/14), Margaret Stauffer (3/14), and Barb Horak (3/18)!
