Halcyon House will present Humanities Iowa speaker, Larry Stone. His program will be "Whitetail: Treasure, Trophy or Trouble ? A History of Deer in Iowa," in the Morrison Center at Halcyon House at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26.
Although Iowa's original deer herd vanished in the face of white settlement, the animals rebounded during the 20th century to the point of overpopulation. Adapted from a book written in 2003 for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, "Whitetail" traces that history. It is a story of broad appeal to farmers, hunters, motorists and wildlife watchers ? anyone whose life has been affected by Iowa deer.
