Luke 22:31-32 'Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to have all of you, to sift you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen and build up your brothers.”
Simon (Peter) was an impulsive go-getter. He was one who would jump in and act, often without thinking through what he was doing. He was the one who left the disciples' boat and tried to walk on water to Jesus who was approaching them. He was what we would call 'wet behind the ears.” He loved the Lord and vowed that he would stand by His side no matter what - even if it meant death.
Jesus was with the disciples at the last Passover supper He would have with them on earth. He was preparing them for what was about to happen to Him and them. It was a precious, yet, very difficult time for them. The disciples and Jesus were close. They were very dependent on them for their spiritual food. They were in training for the day in which they would not have Him to teach and guide them.
Satan wanted to get his hands on Peter, but Jesus had prayed for him and put a wall of protection around him for the future. Peter was going to deny Jesus, but he would not betray Him. After his denials, Peter would repent and be restored to a right relationship with God and become a pillar in the early church.
We don't know how often Jesus intercedes on our behalf in heaven. He is our mediator and I am sure that we keep Him plenty busy. He watches over us and intercedes on our behalf when we stumble and fall into sin. His Spirit is always there to convict us when we do sin and draw us back to the Lord. We are never going to be so righteous here on earth to never sin, so we must have our Lord's help so we don't wander away from His protective care into lives of sin.
Oh, dear friend, turn to Jesus today and worship Him. Praise Him for being your mediator before God. Praise Him for not letting you stay in sin and out of God's fellowship. Praise Him for all He is doing in heaven today on your behalf. Hallelujah, what a Savior!
