Pastor Maureen Howard, representing the Immanuel Lutheran Church, provided the weekly chapel service to Halcyon House residents on Sunday, June 23, 2019. The sermon title was 'By A Different Name.” Scripture from Luke 8:26-39. Beth Janecek shared her musical talents on the piano.
Iowa State Extension and Outreach wrapped up a three-week series, 'A Journey through Parkinson's Disease,” Tuesday, June 25. in the Marshall Game Room at Halcyon House. Dawn Dunnegan, a Human Sciences Specialist in southeast Iowa, taught the classes, which included interactive lessons, discussions, and activities. Dawn will return in September to lead 'Powerful Tools for the Caregiver” series.
Halcyon House Wellness Department, with the help of Halcyon House resident Bob Bonar, kicked off a weekly game of Corn Toss in the Timmins Event Center, Tuesday, June 25. Jane Leyden, Mike Wood, Fred Stark and others participated. Corn Toss will be offered every Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., in the Timmins Event Center. Corn Toss is open to the public.
Virginia Tzschantz had her family visit from June 13 - 18. The visitors included Barbara, her sister from Fla., her brother and wife, Phil and Lois Meyers, from Golden, Colo., and her cousin Tex Eberspacher and wife Margaret from Friend, Neb. They saw lots of family, ate lots of great food and played some fun, competitive games.
Every Friday night in the Morrison Center, Halcyon House residents, Gladys Ferguson, Laura Lee Chalupa, Sybil Thorton, Mary Meeks, Marcella Reed and several others play Mexican Train Dominos. The group thoroughly enjoy the game and each other's company.
Al and Lorna presented 'Ark Encounter” from their visit to Noah's Ark in Williamstown, Ky., Thursday afternoon in Wedgewood. Al and Lorna showed photos of the Arc and shared details regarding their trip. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.
