Kwang Song from the United Methodist Church led the worship service in Halcyon House of Washington’s Epworth Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 12. The sermon was titled, “Who Do You Say I Am?” based on Matthew 16:13-20. Virginia Tschantz shared her piano talents with the group.
The residents of Wedgewood have been enjoying the beautiful weather. They have been dining outside in the courtyard while admiring the flowers and eating the fresh produce from the stand-up gardens. During Thirsty Thursday this week, residents enjoyed wine with cheese, grapes, crackers and chocolates. On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, trivia about the day was shared with everyone. It brought back memories of where they were on that day that took so many lives.
Rosewood residents have been enjoying the outdoors during these late days of summer. Laurie Pemberton, Halcyon House Lifestyle Coordinator, has been playing 1930’s jazz era music for the residents in the courtyard. Rosewood residents have been busy making abstract art, crafts, exercising with balloons, reminiscing, and dining in the courtyard.
Sagewood residents were able to enjoy the beautiful weather by taking wheelchair rides around the campus. The fish are still very active in the pond and the flowers are still blooming, which make the walks even more enjoyable! On Thursday, residents spent the afternoon playing brain games. They finished the week with a chocolate and vanilla ice cream snack.
Arborwood residents continue to enjoy the remaining days of summer while sitting on the patio looking out at the plants and flowers that continue to thrive in their courtyard. Several tomato plants grow in portable raised beds. Though they were planted a little late, they hope to enjoy a few ripe tomatoes. It has been a challenge keeping the plants watered during this dry weather. Tissue paper art, mad libs, trivia and humor have kept them busy in the afternoons.
Several IL residents gathered in the Applewood Lounge to watch the Iowa State vs. Iowa game. Halcyon House Dietary Team Member Mary Ann Greiner made delicious cupcakes decorated as footballs for the all of the residents to enjoy.
Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Glenys Clark, Nancy Maere, and Gene Wallerich.
