In the spirit of Mary Harlan (Mrs. Robert Todd Lincoln), the Harlan-Lincoln House in Mt. Pleasant, 101 W. Broad Street, invites you to an old-fashioned ice cream social on Sunday, July 13, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The event will feature homemade ice cream, cookies, and bars and the jazz music of well-known local musicians, Adam Creager, Jim DePriest, Jason Edwards, David Johnson, and Gerry Runyon. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy socializing with neighbors and friends and listening to jazz.
The event will be held rain or shine with the porch and a tent to keep off any rain drops. All ages are welcome. Free will donations are appreciated.
Mary Harlan Lincoln became owner of what is now the Harlan-Lincoln House in 1895 when her father James Harlan deeded the property to her. She had the now reconstructed porch added that year and entertained at the house. She enjoyed being a part of the community. The Harlan-Lincoln House will be open to visitors that afternoon.
The Harlan-Lincoln House was owned and operated from 1907 until 2023 by Iowa Wesleyan University. When Iowa Wesleyan closed in 2023, ownership was transferred to a new nonprofit managed by volunteers. It is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2 — 4 p.m., March through October, and by special appointment via the website www.harlanlincoln.org. Follow us on Facebook at The Harlan Lincoln House.
