The Henry County Master Gardeners are pleased to announce that seven $250 Mini-Grants were awarded this year to support community gardening projects in Henry County.
2019 Mini-Grant recipients were Hope Haven Flexible Services, Winfield-Mt. Union FFA, Van Allen Elementary School, Salem Elementary School, Harlan Elementary School, Iowa WINs of Henry County and Rich and Jeanie Seberg- Old Threshers. Each of these organizations submitted applications containing project plans that were reviewed by the Henry County Master Gardener Mini-Grant Committee and gained the approval of the Henry County Master Gardener Group to provide funding.
Awards were given out in late April and will be used to fund summer projects. In September awardees will give a presentation on the outcomes of their projects to the Henry County Master Gardener group. Darbee Wellman, Henry County Ag and Youth Educator, was pleased with this year's applications and awards. 'It is wonderful to receive such a large number of applications and to have the group be able to fund them due to fundraising activities like the Henry County Master Gardener Spring Symposium and the Annual Master Gardener Plant Sale. The community support of these fundraising events and the volunteer hours put in by the Henry County Master Gardeners make providing this funding for community projects possible.”
Applications for Mini-Grants are accepted each March. For more information on the Mini- Grants please speak to a Henry County Master Gardener or contact the Henry County Extension Office.
