November is National Diabetes Month and the vision of the American Diabetes Association is a life free of diabetes and all of its burdens. Raising awareness of the disease in one of the main efforts behind the mission of the Association. Diabetes Month is a way to bring national attention to the disease and the issues surrounding diabetes, along with the many individuals affected by it.
Henry County Health Center?s Diabetes Department encourages the public to join the Big Blue Test, a program of the Diabetes Hands Foundation that rallies communities to experience the impact that just small changes can have on their overall health and wellness. Here is how to take the Big Blue Test:
1. If you have diabetes, test your blood sugar. (No diabetes? No testing.)
2. Exercise for at least 14 to 20 minutes.
3. Test again. (If you have diabetes.)
4. Share your results on BigBlueTest.org or through the app on iPhone or Android.
In the past, most participants of the Big Blue Test experience an average blood sugar drop of 20 percent. Each Big Blue Test helps others, through a life-saving donation on your behalf. Log on to BigBlueTest.org to enter your individual results. For each test (or time active if you don?t have diabetes) entered between now and Nov. 30, 2015, $1 will be donated to charities in the United States and abroad that deliver life-saving supplies to people with diabetes in need.
