At the March 16 meeting of the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission (HCHPC), it was reported that the money from the state for the last grant has arrived and been credited to the county.
A thank you for a copy of HCHPC?s book, ?History of Transportation, Henry County?, was received from the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Books are still available at all the museums; banks in Winfield, Wayland, and New London; the city offices in Wayland and New London; Jerry?s Restaurant; Hy-Vee grocery and drug stores; and the New London library.
Consultant Rebecca McCarley wrote explaining the work she has done the last four months on the reconnaissance survey project for Jefferson Township, including Wayland and Coppock. She is working toward completing the draft report by April l, and the final products by the CLG grant deadline in June.
Lea Bradley approached the commission requesting support of grants for which the Henry County Heritage Trust plans to apply later this year. A decision will be made at a later date after our current project is completed.
Planning is underway for the June 12 tour of the last four rural properties that were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The plaques that will be placed on each site have arrived.
The next meeting will be April 20, at 2 p.m., in the court house. All interested persons are welcome.
