Henry County Heritage Trust meets

Henry County Heritage Trust (HCHT) held its monthly meeting on April 26, 2023, at the museum in Mt. Pleasant, with nearly all board members in attendance. After the minutes and finance reports were approved, plans for the April 30th Historic Church Tour were finalized.
The board recognized the ladies of “Pleasantique Seekers” who came in April to tidy up the museum and the Van Allen House in preparation of Saturday, May 6th, the first day the museum will be open regularly for “touring season”, 1:00-4:00.
Upcoming school tours were announced; Gina Dexter’s Honors Class will be visiting the museum’s library archives to do research for their history projects. Tina Mullin’s Social Studies students from New London will be touring to learn more about Dr. James Van Allen.
Donations from the past month include Iris Restaurant menus, Wallbank Clothing store advertising thermometer and Wehrle Family genealogy research notes.
Friday, May 19th, a Tag Sale and Henry County History Book Sale will be held. David and Cathy Helman will be speaking Saturday, June 10th about Salem and the Underground Railroad.
Plans are in the works to launch HCHT’s newest fundraiser – “Adopt-a-Mural”, to enhance the exterior, west side of the museum building (old Saunders School). Stay tuned, as details will be released this summer.
New, incoming board members are expected to attend the next scheduled HCHT meeting on Wednesday, May 24th, 10:00 AM at the Henry County Heritage Center Museum, 403 West Madison Street. The public is invited.
