The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission met Wednesday, July 16 at the Henry County Heritage Trust. Attending were commissioners Chad Brousseau, Joel Garretson, Judy Rawson, Mary Savage, and Pat White. Also attending were Jeff McPheron and Lynn Conrad. Mr. Conrad provided an update on the progress of the K-Line RR Flagstop building in Oakland Mills. Tremendous progress has been made on preserving the flagstop to its original condition with the help of area volunteers and financial contributions. It can be seen near the entrance to the disc golf course on the Oakland Mills road. Roofing, siding, and painting are to be done this year, along with a couple of sections of RR track to be laid in front of the building.
Pat White has finished the text for the historic sites guide book and commissioners will be collecting photographs and developing maps to be included in the book. Sal Alaniz and Print Group USA are working on the format and printing. The Winfield Historical Society and Museum is hosting a "Cultivating" Breakfast fundraiser for renovation of the new museum building on Aug. 3 from 8-10 a.m. Jeff McPheron announced that he would like to join the commission and will be submitting his nomination to the Board of Supervisors.
The next meeting will be Aug. 20 at the Henry County Heritage Trust.
