Jul. 20, 2023 2:44 pm, Updated: Jul. 24, 2023 11:24 am
The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission met Wednesday July 19 at the Henry County Courthouse. Attending were Johanna Crawford, Joel Garretson, Judy Rawson, Larry D. Roth, Mary Savage, Cathie Schreiner, and Pat White.
The first draft of the Cemeteries of Henry County book will be ready for review at the end of the week. Also discussed were the K-Line RR Flagstop project at Oakland Mills, repair of the D.A.R. Lowell Bur Mill monument, and the moving of historic artifacts from the former Iowa Wesleyan University to the Henry County Heritage Museum.
The 2024 Iowa Preservation Summit will be held in Mt. Pleasant the first weekend of June and it is anticipated that the Commissioners will be involved and assisting the organizers during that three day event.
Pat reported that only 30 copies of the Rural Schools of Henry County book are left at the auditor's office. Upcoming history related events include a presentation on the orphan trains by Pat White at the Henry County Heritage museum on Saturday, July 22, at 2 p.m., and pancake breakfast hosted by the Swedish-American Museum in Swedesburg on Aug. 19 at the Hall.
The next meeting will be held Aug. 16 at the courthouse.
