Henry County Historic Preservation Commission meets

The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission delivered its annual Certified Local Government report to the Henry County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday February 13, 2024.

Commission chair Joel Garretson reported on the Commission's 2023 achievements and layed out the work plan for 2024. Highlights of 2023 included the addition of the Wayland Historic Residential District to the National Register of Historic Places and the completion of the latest book Cemeteries of Henry County, Iowa.

For 2024, the Commission will be involved in activities with the 2024 Iowa Preservation Summit to be held in Mt. Pleasant June 6-8. As one of the longest running historic preservation commissions in the state, it will be presenting a session on the activities and initiatives it has undertaken in the past 30 years.

Immediately following the Supervisors meeting, the Commission held a regular business meeting in the courthouse conference room. The next scheduled meeting will be April 17 at the courthouse at 1:00 PM.
