The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission met Wednesday Nov. 19 at the Henry County Heritage Trust Museum. Present were Commissioners Joel Garretson, Caroline Lehman, Jeff McPheron, Judy Rawson, and Pat White. The agenda and October minutes were approved with a minor amendment to the minutes.
Four new brown historic marker signs are in the process of being placed at the Winfield C.B. & Q. RR Depot, Henry Co Institute of Science in Trenton, the Tri-T Country Club at Oakland Mills, and the abandoned town of Finis. Commissioners have reviewed and provided comments on a draft copy of the History of Railroads book being written by BNSF historical consultants. Lynn Conrad emailed the Commission a recent photo of the Oakland Mills K-Line Flagstop building showing the new roof and other recent project developments. Commissioners reviewed a proposed format for organizing the county historic guide book and will be searching for more photos of area historic sites.
As several Commissioners terms will be expiring at the end of this year, there is an active search for new Commissioners. If interested, contact the Henry County Auditor's office for more information.
The next meeting will be Jan. 21, 2026.
