Henry County Historic Preservation Commission meets

The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission met Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the Henry County Courthouse. Present were Caroline Lehman, Mary Savage, Johanna Crawford, Judy Rawson, Cathie Schreiner, Larry D. Roth, Aaron Kimze, Joel Garretson, and guest Pat White.
Larry Roth reported that the Schantz House & Carpentry Shop nomination for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) has passed the first round of review at the State Historical Society and will go to the final round on October 7th. If approved, it will be the first property to be listed on the NRHP in the city of Wayland.
Progress is being made on the rural country schoolbook and all submissions and contributions are to be in to The Print Group by Sept. 1. The Commission plans for the book to be available by November 1 of this year. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept, 16 at the courthouse at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
