The Henry County Historic Preservation Commission met in the afternoon on Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the courthouse conference room. Johanna Crawford, Martha Francy, Mary Savage, Todd Barton, Larry D. Roth and Joel Garretson were in attendance. Among the topics discussed was the nomination of properties in Wayland and Jefferson Township to the National Register of Historic Places. A Web page is under development for the small museums and will be under a tab on the county's official website. The page needs some tweaking before being released. A project under consideration is a means of showing where the old abandoned railroad lines ran through the county, initially as a map on the county historic preservation Web page. The next meeting will be Oct. 17 at the East Grove Farms Meadery with a tour of the Keokuk, Mt. Pleasant and Muscatine Rail Road grades constructed in the 1850s in the Garretson timber, weather permitting.
