Henry County Optimist Club donates to the Mt. Pleasant FFA
Nov. 17, 2022 3:21 pm
Beginning with Memorial Day this past season, the Mount Pleasant FFA volunteered with three of the Flag Displays put out by the Henry County Optimist Club.
These Flag Displays line East Washington, North Jefferson/Broadway and South Walnut. In total, the FFA Students handle roughly 300 Flags with each those holidays. Putting the Flags up means starting before 6am and taking them down is around 6:00 in the evening, but the Students take it in stride.
This display was started in May of 2019 as a fundraiser for the Optimist Club who donates their proceeds to Youth Organizations and efforts in our community. This includes the Annual Easter Egg hunt on the Beautiful Mount Pleasant Square and Camp Scholarships for needy students (to name just two).
"Everyone in our Club agrees that the FFA students along with Mr. Martin are excellent volunteers,“ said Paul Katsion of the Optimist Club. ”They show up ready to work and are enthusiastic about the display; that definitely makes the time pass more quickly. We enjoy the interaction we have with them (its a whole lot of fun) and think of these students as friends."
For 2022, the Optimist Club waited for the end of the Flag season to present the Mount Pleasant FFA Chapter with a donation that recognizes the hours they put into adding to the beauty of our community.
