Her Flag 2020 on display

Mt. Pleasant resident Annie Guldberg's stripe of the U.S. flag to be added to the national Her Flag 2020 project in August 2020 is on display at the Mt. Pleasant Library. Thirty six artists from the 36 states that ratified the 19th Amendment in 1920 were chosen to create a stripe to be sewn into an American flag in celebration of what women have accomplished in honor of the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote. Guldberg was chosen to represent the state of Iowa. Her stripe of flag reads 'votes for women”; the Iowa State motto 'Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain”; and a quote from Carrie Chapman Catt, a sufragette, 'Progress is calling on you to make no pause. Act!” Guldberg's design was painted in oil and scanned to be printed on fabric for the flag.
