The 2011 Iowa Hereford Tour, sponsored by the Iowa Hereford Breeders Association, will be Aug. 28, in southeast Iowa.
The tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the Keosauqua Sale Company in Keosauqua, where part of the herd of owners Bill and Becky Goehring will be on display.
Visitors will depart from there for a pasture tour of Goehring Herefords in Libertyville. Featured in the August 2011 issue of Hereford World, Bill Goehring has been involved with herefords since age 10 and has owned and operated the Keosauqua Sale Company since 1986. The family runs approximately 100 registered cows and has developed a strong commercial bull business in a three-state area.
Participants will then gather at the lodge at Lacey State Park in Keosauqua at 11:30 a.m. for a dutch treat lunch and the IHBA?s annual meeting, where four new directors will be elected and the late Keith Hoelzen will be inducted into the Iowa Hereford Hall of Fame.
Following lunch, at approximately 2:15 p.m., the group will visit the Tom Heidt family?s K7 Herefords near Lockridge.
Tom and Jo Heidt and family have a Line One based herd consisting of around 70 spring production cows and 30-plus fall production cows. They exhibited the reserve champion pen of three heifers at the 2010 National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo.
The final stop at approximately 4:30 p.m. will be Sunrise Polled Herefords at Sperry.
Since founding their herd in 1978, Al Heckenberg and family have assembled a top set of cows carrying Remitall and Reed Farms breeding.
The public is invited to attend all or part of the tour. Door prizes will be awarded at each stop.
For more directions, additional information or lunch reservations, contact tour chairmen Tom Heidt, at 608-574-2309 or Bill Goehring at 919-8951.
Lunch reservations should be made by Aug. 22.
