Hillcrest Academy to host Homecoming & Alumni Family Weekend
Sep. 9, 2021 2:22 am
Hillcrest Academy in rural Kalona has announced it will hold its Homecoming & Alumni Family Weekend on Oct. 1-2.
This year, the school hopes to include all the traditional events like the alumni athletic events, the Joetown Classic 5K, and the annual Pork Supper, plus it is planning to unveil the commissioned painting “Hillcrest” by Kara Slaubaugh, Class of 2011. This was originally planned for the 75th anniversary celebration, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school needed to postpone the event. Now that restrictions are lifted, the school is planning to try again.
Kara was able to finish her painting this summer and it will be on display during Homecoming & Alumni Family Weekend. Signed, limited edition prints will be available to purchase and details will be communicated soon.
“Stay tuned and don’t miss your chance to take home not only a wonderful piece of art, but a meaningful and visual part of school history,” stated a news release from the school.
Another celebration will take place as the school recognizes members of the 1996 State Runner-up Cross-Country team at the Joetown Classic, as well as the 1996 Fall Soccer State Runner-up team at the alumni soccer game. Join parents, grandparents, and former players as the school celebrates the 25-year anniversaries of their accomplishments. If alumni have questions about Homecoming or their reunion, contact the Office of Advancement (jours@hillcrestravens.org).
Apple fritters
The Hillcrest PTO will be selling their historic apple fritters at the Kalona Fall Festival on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25. And while there, attendees can check out the Hillcrest music groups performing on Sept. 24 from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
