Historic Preservation Commission talk about upcoming book release

Henry County?s Historic Preservation Commission met Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Henry County Courthouse.

Most of the meeting was dedicated to discussion of the book soon to be published, ?History of Transportation - Henry County, Iowa?. Members are completing the index and doing final proofing. Books should go on sale early in December, in time for Christmas. Places where the books may be purchased will be announced soon.

Area newspapers have printed the ?Henry County Historical Highlights? column in a recent issue. Look for an article from the Wayland Midwest Memories Museum in January.

The Wayland volunteers? work on the reconnaissance survey will be completed by the end of December, at which time the consultant, Rebecca McCarley, will begin research for the historic contexts of the report, plus reviewing and completing the Iowa Site Inventory forms.

Current officers were elected for another term: chairman-Caroline Lehman, of New London; vice chairman-Joel Garretson, of Salem; secretary-Mary Savage, of Salem; and treasurer-Chad Brousseau, of Hillsboro. The other commissioners are Todd Barton, of Mt. Pleasant; R. L. Chrisinger, of Winfield; Gwen Moore, of New London; Rosie Kramer and Faye Heartsill, of Salem; Johanna Crawford, of Swedesburg; and Larry D. Roth, of Wayland.

The next Henry County?s Historic Preservation Commission meeting will be in the conference room of the Henry County Courthouse on Jan. 20, 2016, at 2 p.m.
