Historical entertainment tour to be held

A chartered bus tour, "That's Entertainment" with Michael Zahs and Loren Horton is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6. The history of entertainment and other topics will be featured as participants travel through southeast Iowa.
The activities include the Toby and Susie Museum, the Swedish Museum, historic opera houses, an amusement park, the oldest movie theater in the world, and other special places. Old films from the oldest theater will be shown. They are some of the earliest films in the world.
Lunch and snacks and all admission fees are included and travel will be by chartered bus. The group will leave from the Hy Vee parking lot in Washington, Iowa, at 7:30 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m.. A pickup in Iowa City may be arranged.
Loren Horton is retired State Historian of Iowa. He and Michael Zahs have led tours together since 1989. Both are noted speakers. Zahs is collaborating with the Special Collections Department of the University of Iowa, in preserving and restoring the Brinton Collection of early entertainment material. This collection is considered the most significant collection of early traveling projection entertainers in the country.
The tour is sponsored by the American Association of University and the profits will go for scholarships.
