The Washington County History department of Fortnightly Club met on Sept. 12 at the Washington Genealogy Library. Sally Reighard presented a program about country schools in Washington County.
Since this is a new department in Fortnightly, members are hoping that women interested in the history of Washington County will be interested in attending. The next meeting will be at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Genealogy Library in the Washington Public Library. Ellen Krueger will present a program on The Washington Evening Journal Paperboys Defense Bond Agent Program during World War II. In six months, 18 paperboys, along with delivering their newspapers, sold $164,000 in defense bonds. They won both the state and the national competition.
