Home improvement workshops set
Several free home improvement workshops are planned during Home Improvement Week Monday through Sept. 24 at the Jefferson County ISU Extension office.
The workshops will teach participants about fixing up their ?energy-hog? homes, making homes more efficient and healthy, restoring features of older homes and more about building science.

Several free home improvement workshops are planned during Home Improvement Week Monday through Sept. 24 at the Jefferson County ISU Extension office.
The workshops will teach participants about fixing up their ?energy-hog? homes, making homes more efficient and healthy, restoring features of older homes and more about building science.
The first workshop will be ?Sealing Your Home with Bill McAnally? at 7:15 p.m. Monday.
The second is ?Building Science and Weatherization? with Scott Timm at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Home Improvement Week will wrap up with three workshops presented by Bob Yapp on Sept. 24 beginning with ?Old Window Restoration? at 9 a.m.
?Historic Preservation of Buildings? will be presented at 10:30 a.m., and ?Exterior Painting? will be at 1 p.m.
?The Extension is sponsoring a fantastic free workshop,? said Timm. ?Bill McAnally is a really well-known and respected speaker on NPR?s ?Talk of Iowa.??
Timm, a Fairfield resident, is a field specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. He specializes in home weatherization and energy efficiency, has led several community
energy efficiency drives, including the Hometown Rewards Program in Fairfield, and currently is spearheading the efforts of the Center on Sustainable Communities.
McAnally is one of the most trusted and well-respected building professionals in the state of Iowa. Frequently featured on Iowa Public Radio?s ?Talk of Iowa,? he brings over 35 years of experience in the construction industry. He was a building contractor for over 15 years specializing in new home and light commercial construction.
Yapp is the president of Preservation Resources Inc. and travels America as a historic preservation and planning consultant. He gives keynote speeches, conducts seminars and hands-on workshops on preservation housing and community. Yapp founded The Belevedere School for Hands-on Preservation in Hannibal Missouri, and teaches The Historic Preservation Trades Program for at-risk students.
