A video honoring Rev. Martin Luther King has generously been made available by Patti Miller, a local resident who participated in the Freedom Summer 1964 voter registration drive in Mississippi. It will be shown at the Fairfield Public Library at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18. There is no charge for the event. A brief discussion will follow.
The video features Rev. Samuel Kyles, who along with Rev. Ralph Abernathy was present on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee when Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated April 4, 1968. Rev. Kyles is featured in the 32-minute video, titled “The Witness.” Released in 2012, it contains not only comments from Rev. Kyles but also memorable footage from several of Dr. King’s final speeches.
Rev. Kyles passed in 2016 at age 84.
