Several fourth-and fifth-grade youth spent Monday at Hop To It Engineering Camp hosted by Washington County Extension and 4-H. At this science camp students will learned and experimented ways to safely conquer an invasive species thinking as a mechanical engineer.
4-H Youth Coordinator Amy Green planned the camp using the Engineering is Elementary curriculum and was impressed and entertained with the participants? creativity even on day one. ?After giving a challenge, it was fun to watch them design experiments, test them, collect data and then be challenged to go improve it,? she said.
This Hop To It day camp is similar to other camps which will be offered this summer for youth kindergarten to fifth grade. For more information on the camp or other opportunities for youth, contact Amy at the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
