Horse, mule plowing event held near Veo
VEO ? A two-day horse and mule noncompetitive plowing event took place Nov. 17-18 on Nipa Boulevard, about 3 miles south of Veo in Penn Township of Jefferson County.
The horses and mules were used to plow a 20-acre field. The horses were several varieties which included Belgians, Percherons and Suffolks.
The plows were the riding style, the same as those used in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Those in attendance were Terry and Vicki Moore from Columbus Junction, with their Belgians Dixie, Daisy and Babe; Paul and Teresa Bishop from Burlington, with their Belgians Power, Justice and Sundance: Dale Gonterman from Washington, Iowa, with his Percherons Max, Molly and Pollie; Tony and Dillon Garrett, with their mules Mike and Mic; Derek Metcalf from Douds, with his mules; and Larry and Carol Robison from Veo with their Suffolks Pete, Joy, Maddie and Abe.
