You've heard of speed dating? Well, Fairfield Public Library's monthly 'How-To Tuesday” events are structured like speed dating - except this is speed learning with a palpable sense of community. If you arrive at the library by 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, you'll have time to enjoy nine free demonstrations by talented local residents:
' How to Train a Dog with a Leash & Treats - Will Steingreaber, Easy Dingo
' How to Reserve Lodging with Airbnb - Bob Shrem & Denise Gallagher
' How to Paint a Landscape - John Preston, plein-air painter
' How to Learn Tai Chi & Chi Gong - Christopher Florence, Christopher's Healing Arts
' How to Make Delicious Cheese - Rufus Musser, Milton Creamery LLC (free samples!)
' How to Set & Keep a Budget - Tom Thompson, former CPA
' How to Fit and Load a Backpack - Steve Harper, backpacker
' How to Recycle the Improbable - Stuart Valentine, TerraCycle
' How to Find Family on Microfilm - Harry Gustafson, Naviant and Fairfield Public Library
Each month, Fairfield Public Library Director Rebecca Johnson recruits a different group of skilled residents who are willing to share their know-how. Her goal is to do this monthly for a year, without repeating anything. Why? Because Fairfield's got talent, she said.
