A Hunter Education Safety Class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 22 at the Southeast Iowa Skeet Club near the Walton Club in Fairfield.

Those attending the class need to pick up a hunter education manual at Jefferson County Park or the Jefferson County Recorder?s office and complete the review questions in the back of the book.
To purchase an Iowa hunting license, a person must have a certificate showing he or she has completed a hunter education course. The course is mandatory for everyone born after Jan. 1, 1972.
The minimum age for certification is 12.
Hunter education is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to the many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification and the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.
