IHCC annual holiday concert Dec. 12

OTTUMWA? Celebrate the music of the holiday season as Indian Hills Community College?s Department of Performing and Visual Arts presents its annual holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12.

The public is invited to the free performance in St. John Auditorium on the Ottumwa campus.

The performance will feature the Indian Hills Staff Choir, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by Laura Wiebe; the women?s ensemble, Tono Bella; and the Indian Hills Jazz Band, under the direction of David Sharp.

The Indian Hills Staff Choir will perform ?Little Saint Nick? as arranged by The Beach Boys, ?Baby, It?s Cold Outside? and ?The Wild Wood Carol? by John Rutter featuring soloist Steve Garrett.

The Indian Hills Concert Choir will sing ?Carol of the Bells,? ?Now Is Born the Divine Christ Child,? ?Here We Come A-Wassailing? and ?Ocho Kandelikas,? a Hanukkah song in the Ladino dialect, featuring David Sharp on clarinet.

The Chamber Singers will present Hugo Distler?s ?Lo! How a Rose E?er Blooming? and an arrangement of ?It?s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.?

Tona Bella will perform ?All I Want For Christmas Is You,? originally performed by Mariah Carey.

The Indian Hills Jazz Band will play ?Jingle Bell Boogie? by Bryan Kidd and a new arrangement by Sharp of ?O Come All Ye Faithful.? The ensemble also will showcase vocalist Laura Wiebe on Sharp?s arrangement of Nancy Wilson?s ballad, ?That?s What I Want for Christmas.?

And in what has become an annual tradition for the finale of the concert, all of the performing groups and music faculty will combine to perform ?Jingle Bell Rock? arranged for this concert by Sharp.
