DES MOINES (AP) ? Police say a 25-year-old mother was arrested after she left her 2-year-old son in an unlocked van in a Des Moines parking lot for more than an hour in freezing weather.
The woman, Desiree Perry-Temple, is charged with child endangerment. Polk County Jail records say she was arrested Saturday and released on Sunday. A public phone listing for her couldn?t be found. Online court records don?t yet list the case.
Police say Perry-Temple told officers that she and her mother had gone into a store but checked on the boy periodically. The temperature outside was 22 degrees.
Perry-Temple?s mother drove the boy home when his mother was arrested. The Iowa Department of Human Services is investigating the case.
