Iowa Merit Mother of the Year

Angie Ornduff of Ainsworth was selected 2014 Iowa Merit Mother of the year and was recognized in Des Moines on March 29 to receive this award from the Iowa Chapter of American Mothers.

The qualifications for this award are to be a successful mother as evidenced by the character and achievements of her individual children, display the ability to strengthen family relationships, conduct the precepts of the Golden rule and the power of a mother?s inner strength to deal with the successes and challenges of life, and exhibit an interest in her community by participation in programs and services that enrich mothers, children and family at home, at work and in the world.

Angie and husband Ron lived and worked on the family farm for 38 years. They have three children, and six grandchildren. She is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in home economics education. Angie has been very involved with youth her entire adult life. She has taught high school home economics. She served for 10 years as a 4-H leader, and 26 years judging in the Home Improvement Division for the Iowa State Fair as well as judging at the local level. She has also taught adult education for Kirkwood Community College.

Angie is a member of the Ainsworth Community Church serving on the parish council 18 years, taught Sunday School 27 years and is a very active in the church women?s organization. She was among the first Ainsworth trainees for first responder and served in that role for 30 years.
