Iowa’s actions to ‘flatten the curve’

On Monday, April 6, Governor Reynolds and Dr. Fauci discussed COVID-19 and Iowa's actions to flatten the curve. Dr. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, had very positive things to say about the way Iowa has handled COVID-19. While there is no formal 'Shelter-in-Place” order, he acknowledged that the orders in place in Iowa function very similarly. I appreciate our Governor's efforts to keep communities and families safe and healthy.
This week, the Governor's office has broken down the statistics regarding COVID-19. The graphics below give a clear overview of our statistics and community spread in our area. It's important we stay home, stay informed and take personal responsibility when it comes to slowing the spread!
Face Shields in District 84
I have been very busy this week delivering face shields to essential businesses in District 84. MD Orthopaedics, my family's small business, worked with the University of Iowa to create face shields to help combat the shortage. Last week, they produced 3,500 for healthcare workers in Southeast Iowa and are continuing to work on more. A huge thank you to all of the non-medical essential workers who are still working and the healthcare workers who are on the front lines.
William Burt's Story
I was honored to run the mobile barbershop bill on the floor of the House this year. This piece of legislation got rid of some of the government red tape that was holding innovators back. Linked below is an incredible short film that highlights the struggles William Burt has persevered through to get to the place he is today. It follows the awesome story of William Burt and the movement he has created for barbers around our state and country. William truly is an inspiration.

Moving Forward
Thank you all for doing your part to flatten the curve. I know that if we continue to stick together, we will make it out of this even stronger. Follow me on Facebook and Twitter for daily updates, and as always, continue to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
