Issuing passports a positive step

To the editor:
It is good that citizens of Mexico are aided by Mexican Consul Maria Guadalupe Sanchez Salazar. Issuing them passports is identifying them as foreigners within the United States having crossed borders. It is noted she has been welcomed by Mayor Jaron Rosien; however, the item in the Oct. 16, Journal makes no mention she has or has not been welcomed by Washington County Officials. Currently the United States has been blinded as to their activities and their location.
As Consul Salazar is aware, lawful immigration is through our ambassador to Mexico and his staff. Applying migrants must furnish favorable background checks on activities and health. Approval is based on quotas established by the U.S. Congress. Only then is approval granted and migrants welcomed to enter the United States. Exceptions are granted for application through the U.S. Congress.
Foreigners entering the United States at borders are normally without favorable background checks. They may have criminal status or may be inflicted with a dangerous communicable disease, drug dealers or worse.
Furnished passports is a favorable measure by Mexican Officials. Further measures by United States and Mexican Officials are applicable. Passports for individuals, each, immediate family and children.
