Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Jefferson County has announced a summer line-up of 4-H 'On the Go” kits for Kindergarten through 8th grade youth. These weekly kits are offered at no cost and are available to any youth, regardless of 4-H membership.
Beginning the week of June 8th, a weekly hands-on educational lesson will be packaged up with instructions and most supplies included. Upon registering, families will have their choice of pick-up location. Options include Lincoln Elementary from 12-12:30pm on Mondays, Jefferson County Extension Office during business hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Fairfield Public Library during business hours on Tuesdays, and Pilot Grove Savings Bank in Packwood from 2:45pm-3:45pm on Wednesday.
The first lesson offered is a 'Pet Treat Challenge”. This challenge teaches kids to use their hands to larger service by helping others, which is one sign of a great community member! The overall goal of the dog treats is to help our local animal shelters by using our time and talents to bake homemade dog and cat treats to donate.
The K – 3rd grade weekly 'On the Go” kits include: Pet Treat Challenge, Kindness Rocks, Signs of Summer, Seed Starter, Leaf & Flower Fabric Art, Sound All Around, Recycled Racers, and Blast Off. The 4th – 8th grade weekly 'On the Go” kits include: Pet Treat Challenge, Eiffel Tower Artwork, Chinese Hand Fans, Mighty Soybeans, Cover Crop Monsters, Solar Art, Water Quality Challenge, and Feed Rations.
Registration will be done online at https://tinyurl.com/4HOnTheGo. This link will allow you to choose which kits you would like to receive, as well as your preference of a pick-up location.
