ISU Extension offers grain marketing education

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Washington County will offer networking program that empowers women in agriculture to create value for their farm business and help them to improve overall economic conditions in Iowa.
Washington, Iowa – Advanced Grain Marketing for Women, a multi-session course offers insights into options trading for grain and livestock producers, is being offered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach - Washington County. Online registration is available at www.aep.iastate.edu/womeninag or at the Washington County Extension office, 2223 250th St. in Washington, Iowa.
Classes will be held at Washington County Extension Office beginning Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022. Classes will continue Thursday, Sept. 1 and Tuesday, Sept. 6 and will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. A light meal will be provided at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $75.00.
Women in agriculture participating in Advanced Grain Marketing for Women will benefit from understanding the role farmer-owned cooperatives, grain merchandisers, and brokers have and the services they offer related to options trading.
According to ISU Extension and Outreach farm specialist, Ryan Drollette, Advanced Grain Marketing for Women participants will learn how and why options are traded for commodity grain as well as the pros and cons of different marketing strategies. “Our goal is to provide a program that builds on the marketing experience many women in agriculture already have,” said Drollette. “By learning more about the relationship between options trading and crop insurance, women increase the value of their farm business, ” Drollette added.
The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Farm Management Team strives to improve the quality of life in Iowa by providing research-based educational programs that expand agricultural businesses, improve natural resource management, and support the community of women in agriculture. Courses are offered through a network of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach educators, including county-based professionals.
