ISU Extension to hold swine building maintenance workshops
Aug. 11, 2021 11:32 am
ISU Extension and Outreach is joining industry partners to offer four workshops across the state on the maintenance issues faced by swine facility managers and maintenance crews.
Southeast Iowa residents are invited to attend the workshop in Washington County on Aug. 20. The event will be at the Washington County Extension Office, 2223 250th St., in Washington. Call 319-653-4811 to register.
Workshops will discuss concrete pit maintenance and construction, truss management, roof and moisture management and other repair and maintenance issues that can help protect the building and extend its life. Participants also will learn how to allow clean air into the attic space and minimize pit ventilated gases from entering the attic during periods of minimum ventilation during winter months, helping to reduce roof corrosion.
Ways to maintain concrete slats including their repair, to help enhance their usable life, will also be discussed. Participants can select from four workshop locations, each running from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Handout materials, refreshments, and lunch will be provided as a part of the registration. Interested participants can pay by credit card and register for any location by calling 515-832-9597. Walk-in registration on the date of the workshop will only be accepted if space is available.
