IWC observes Red Ribbon Week, invites public to Thursday evening program
MOUNT PLEASANT ? Iowa Wesleyan College?s Behavioral Science Club and Campus Safety and Wellness organizations are co-hosting Red Ribbon Week activities at Iowa Wesleyan College this week.
Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drugs awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States.
There are several activities and events taking place throughout the week on campus.

MOUNT PLEASANT ? Iowa Wesleyan College?s Behavioral Science Club and Campus Safety and Wellness organizations are co-hosting Red Ribbon Week activities at Iowa Wesleyan College this week.
Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drugs awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States.
There are several activities and events taking place throughout the week on campus.
Raffle tickets are on sale during the lunch hour in the dining hall lobby and in the Science Hall lobby between classes today through Thursday. Raffle tickets are 25 cents each or six for $1. The raffle tickets are for several prizes from local businesses in the area.
Posters around campus portray common myths and truths about alcohol and drugs. These posters will also serve as part of the scavenger hunt this week.
Darren Brown, in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, will speak at 6 p.m. Thursday, in IWC?s chapel in honor of Red Ribbon Week. His program is free and open to the public.
He will speak about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse and about his recovery process.
Brown is a children and youth pastor at First Christian Church in Washington, Iowa, and a chemical dependency counseling student at Southeastern Community College.
He lives in Wayland with his wife and two young children.
