James Harlan Chapter of DAR meets in October
James Harlan Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met Saturday morning, Oct. 24, 2015, at the Fellowship Cup, in Mt. Pleasant. Twenty-two attended, including the club?s newest member, Jackie Arnett, who transferred her membership from the Josiah Bartlett Chapter, in Borger, Texas.

James Harlan Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met Saturday morning, Oct. 24, 2015, at the Fellowship Cup, in Mt. Pleasant. Twenty-two attended, including the club?s newest member, Jackie Arnett, who transferred her membership from the Josiah Bartlett Chapter, in Borger, Texas.
Regent Barb Welander led the opening rituals and conducted a short business meeting. Welander continues to receive thank-you notes, complementing our chapter on the successful district meeting, held on Sept. 15.
Pat Brown, chair of the volunteer genealogist committee, reported that since 2007, James Harlan Chapter has grown significantly, adding 36 new members.
For the program, Carol Messer and Sylvia Blaesing reported on their experiences this past June, attending the DAR Continental Congress, in Washington, D.C. They shared pictures, stories and highlights of the meetings, and told of visiting the historic sites and sightseeing in the surrounding area.
Others attending were: registrar, Carol Klopfenstein; treasurer, Pam Schinstock; chaplain, JoAnn Stout; Maria Whetsler; Jane Neil; Judy Rawson; recording secretary, Cathy Helman; Mary Savage; Wilma Lewis; Martha Allen; Kayleigh Septer; Helen See; Becky Wright; Margaret Carlson; Waunita Gibbons; Sylvia Ridinger; and Pat White.
The next meeting will be held on Nov. 21, at the Salem home of Cathy Helman. The Chapter will be treated to a tour of the turn-of-the-century country store, housed in the Helman home.
All members of DAR descend from a patriot who fought in the American Revolution. The objectives of DAR are historical preservation and the promotion of education and patriotic endeavors.
