Jazz service, pancake brunch planned Sunday
First Presbyterian Church will have a jazz service at 10 a.m. Sunday in the church?s fellowship hall.
The Rev. Joe Phipps, pastor of the church, will combine scripture and an inspirational message with sacred and secular music performed by a jazz ensemble.

Jazz service, pancake brunch planned Sunday
First Presbyterian Church will have a jazz service at 10 a.m. Sunday in the church?s fellowship hall.
The Rev. Joe Phipps, pastor of the church, will combine scripture and an inspirational message with sacred and secular music performed by a jazz ensemble.
The ensemble will feature: Francis Thicke, James Wotherspoon, Ken Burns, Rodger Gillaspie, Leanne Edgeton, Gerry Runyon and Ken Norton.
Following the service, a pancake brunch will be served. A free will offering will be collected. The proceeds will go to Presbyterian youth missions
Everyone is invited to attend the service and brunch.
First Lutheran Church installing new pastor
The Rev. Gregory N. Friedrich will be installed Aug. 7 as the new pastor of First Lutheran Church in Fairfield.
The installation, conducted by the Rev. Paul Ostrem, will be during the 9 a.m. service. Ostrem is assistant to the bishop of the Southeastern Iowa Synod of the ELCA. A breakfast brunch will follow the service
Everyone is invited to the installation service and celebration.
Friedrich is a native of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and is a graduate of Luther College in Decorah and the Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, where he was awarded a Master Degree of Divinity. He has about 20 years experience in the parish ministry serving congregations in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Friedrich also has approximately 15 years experience in the chaplaincy ministry working with care facilities, hospitals, and hospice organizations.
Friedrich?s wife, Gloria, also is a Lutheran minister. She is currently serving as the pastor at First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge.
They are the parents of two children. Their son Daniel and his wife Hisako live in Tokyo, Japan, and their daughter, Rachel and her husband Michael, live in the Des Moines area.
Libertyville church planning CPR class
LIBERTYVILLE ? Faith United Methodist Church is collecting names of congregation members and Libertyville community members who would like to participate in a CPR certification class.
The church is bringing the congregation and community together in an effort to be prepared in times of emergency.
The time and location of the CPR certification class will be announced in September.

Friends church holding vacation Bible school
Fairfield Friends Church will offer ?Cave Quest Vacation Bible School? Sunday through Thursday for 3-year-olds through fifth-graders.
Check-in will be at 5:45 p.m., and the program will be 6-8:30 p.m. each day.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the closing program at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Refreshments will be served.

Ice cream social Tuesday at Lebanon church
KEOSAUQUA ? An ice cream social will be held Tuesday at Lebanon Methodist Church in rural Keosauqua.
Serving will start at 5 p.m.
Eight flavors of homemade ice cream pie and cake will be available.
A free will offering will be collected.
