The Jefferson County Health Center Auxiliary hosted its annual Spring Appreciation and Membership Tea on April 23 at the Fairfield Methodist Church, then sponsored a Super Sitter Class the next day at the same location.
Spring Appreciation and Membership Tea
The tea is held each year to honor members and to promote new members.
President Susan Muntz welcomed members and guests. It was wonderful to be able to host the tea this year now that we are able to socialize. Everyone in attendance wore masks and the tables were distanced from each other. We were unable to hold our tea in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Susan introduced JCHC CEO Bryan Hunger, who talked about the many facets of volunteering and thanked the Auxiliary for all that we do. Susan then introduced Occupational Therapist Evan Arnold, who talked about the importance of exercise in promoting good health.
Evan gave everyone sheets of exercises and invited us to do a few as he instructed us on the proper technique.
Refreshments consisted of delicious chocolate and vanilla cupcakes prepared by the dietary department at JCHC. Coffee and tea were also served.
There were beautiful potted flowers at each table and little gifts from the hospital. The potted flowers were later given to a lucky person at each table. The Auxiliary also gave each attendee luxurious hand cream as a special gift.
New officers installed were: president - Susan Muntz; vice-president - Elizabeth Bunnell; secretary - Kathy Gerard; assistant secretary - Saundra Ensminger; corresponding secretary - Aleta Mottet; treasurer- Jean Keller; assistant treasurer - Emily Ledger; past president and advisor to the board - Barb Gaumer.
Committee Chairs introduced: Bargain Box - Deb Bartholomew; Gift Shop - Kathy Gerard; health education - Ulala Conger; membership - Sharyn Workman; publicity/historian- Melanie Lisk; Scholarships - Sylvia Fredericks; sewing - Judie Herzog; Social Events - Melanie Lisk.
The JCHC auxiliary operates the Hospital Gift Shop and the Bargain Box. Profits are used to meet the needs of the hospital, the patients and their families. The auxiliary also awards scholarships to recent and non-recent graduates who are pursuing studies in a health related field. The JCHC Auxiliary currently has 243 members.
Members can choose to be active or non-active. Call Sharyn Workman at 641-472-3912 or Susan Muntz at 641-472-4960 if you would like to become a member.
SUPER SITTER CLASS
The Super Sitter Class sponsored by the JCHC Auxiliary was held April 24 at First United Methodist Church.
Twenty-two fifth and sixth graders from Fairfield Community School, MSAE, Pekin and Suburban Heights Baptist School attended.
Kathy Horn coordinated the class with Susan Muntz, Aleta Mottet and Melanie Lisk assisting.
The class began with a fire safety program presented by James Scotton and Tanner McCreedy from the Fairfield Fire Department.
Marty Chandler and Christine Enwall, JCHC Health and Wellness Coordinator conducted the class. Hands on and video instruction were given in CPR, first aid and other skills necessary to care for children.
At the end of the class, the attendees completed a test and received a certificate of completion.
