JCHC hosting pediatric COVID vaccine clinic

With the recent authorization of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5-11, Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) is hosting several pediatric mass vaccination clinics over the coming weeks. Clinics will be held at JCHC Clinics in Fairfield and are scheduled after school hours to make it easier for children to receive their immunizations.

The dates and times of the clinics are as follows:

Nov. 17 from 5–7 p.m. (First dose only)

Dec. 8 from 5–7 p.m. (First dose and second dose)

Dec. 29 from 5–7 p.m. (Second dose only)

Parents may schedule their children by calling the JCHC COVID-19 hotline at 641-469-4180, or by going to the JCHC website (www.JeffersonCountyHealthCenter.org) to schedule online. Only the first dose will need to be scheduled – second dose shots will be scheduled during the initial appointment.

If families cannot attend a mass vaccination clinic, pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations may also be scheduled during regular JCHC Clinic hours by calling the COVID hotline at 641-469-4180.

The Pfizer vaccine is administered as a two-dose series, with the second dose administered 21 days after the first. Adults and children over the age of 5 are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the Pfizer vaccine was nearly 91 percent effective at preventing COVID-19 in children aged 5-11.
