JEFFERSON COUNTY RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL

Medicare fraud was the topic when the Jefferson County Unit of the Iowa Retired School Personnel met Wednesday at SunnyBrook for a luncheon meeting.

Lisa Bachman and Tom Kelley from Milestones Area Agency on Aging were the speakers. Bachman is an employee of Milestones, and Kelley is a volunteer for the organization.

Two points were emphasized: People should never give out their Social Security numbers to anyone over the phone because the numbers can be used to charge medical expenses to them; and all Medicare summaries should be checked carefully to make certain there are no mistaken or fraudulent charges on the bills.

Anyone who runs into problems with Medicare bills or who is interested in being a volunteer for Milestones can call 855-410-6222 or 641-682-2270 ext. 424. Bachman also would appreciate the opportunity to set up a booth at any Fairfield area event that might be interested in helping to get out the word to seniors about the services provided by Milestones.

The next meeting of the Iowa Retired School Personnel will be on Dec. 8.
