Jimmy Leroy Bryan, 58, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, in Iowa City.

Jimmy Leroy Bryan, 58, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, in Iowa City.
A funeral service for Bryan will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 28, at the First United Methodist Church, located at 309 N. Main Street, in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. Luann Benge will officiate. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery, in Keokuk, with military honors conducted at the graveside by the Iowa Military Funeral Honors and the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, at the Kimzey Funeral Home, located at 213 North Main Street, in Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday evening.

Bryan was born on April 9, 1959, in Dos Palos, Calif., the son of Bobby Gene and Betty Lou (Canady) Bryan. On May 16, 2016, in Mt. Pleasant, he was united in marriage to Melissa Kay Harper.
He was a career military man. He served in the United States Army for many years, including a tour in Desert Storm. He transferred from the Army to the Army National Guard, from which he was honorably discharged. For a few years, he also performed landscaping on the side.
He attended the First United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed being with people with whom he could share a joke.
Bryan is survived by his wife, Melissa, of Mt. Pleasant; three children, Steven (Amanda) Bryan, of Bowie, Texas, Sara Bryan, of Mt. Pleasant, and an infant daughter, Ashley Marie Rose Bryan, of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Bobby (Lynette) Bryan, of Denton, Texas; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
